  1. this brings to mind some imagery in the work of Ilya Repin, a Russian painter who painted in the 19th and 20th C. His art captured Russia at a time of really dramatic industrial change, and a lot of his landscapes show felled trees, or land where trees used to be – just a quiet observation on his part, but really a bold statement/critique in many ways.
