lol Christine – it’s very unsexy conceptual stuff really.
Designed to loosen the art elitists’ claim on exclusivity, namely all that is great and good in art has to be located within those hallowed halls of theirs.
So fine. In that case we can claim (with some degree of justification) that parts of the gallery itself are also “high culture”.
Democratization of art, that’s partly what we’re about. (Check out Marcel Duchamp’s work sometime.)
