Bent it Like Blatter………………………………………………………………………………………………*Update 2/6/15 – SB walks
  c. Michael St.Mark 2015

On the election of Sepp Blatter for a fifth consecutve term as president of FIFA in the face of recently-exposed deep-rooted and historically embedded corruption within FIFA, by agents of that epitome of spotless morality the FBI ..and the arrest of 14 of world football’s  top executives.
Sepp Blatter, in his pomp, appeared even more non-stick than the war criminal at large Tony Blair.

Latest in our “ Scrunch Flex Portraiture” series, first conceived as a new sub art genre by Michael St. Mark.
.” Scrunch Portraiture” .. invented by the artist in 2007, is an infinitely flexible method of altering hard copy photo portraits into manyfold bizarre and fanciful expressions, acutely responsive to the artist’s inner sensibilities.

Artist John McCarthy – paints portraits directly from scrunched-up paper…. ring any bells?

“I try to find images of beautiful women who are photographed in a particular way; a kind of non-smiling vacant glamour, which fashionable magazines like to present. Once the image is selected, I screw the picture up and re-photograph it, adding new light sources to accentuate the creases, then crop it to fit the canvas. The image is then painted.” – John McCarthy 2014

Portrait of the Portrait Artist
c. Michael St.Mark 2013

Given the critical furore in art review circles concerning  Paul Emsley’s royal portrait, London Dada deem it appropriate that the royal artist be given his own controversial art interpretation for posterity.
( Kate looks on, approvingly… do we detect a veiled smile of secret satisfaction? )

She couldn’t possibly comment.

A4 giclee print on premium Ilford pearl, “scrunched” ( ” scrunch flex portraiture” invented by M.St.M in 2007 ) and employing the gloss surface of the paper to incorporate a unique light sharding effect.
Left part of the print adhered to the frame’s backing panel, the right side raised in relief for further 3D manipulation.
Infinitely flexible portraiture artwork.

Open box framed; 21cms x 30cms
Signed original; £1580

Derivation. Paul Emsley with his somewhat tired and overworked portrait of the Duchess of Cambridge’s photo, unveiled at the NPG yesterday.

Perhaps he should stick to drawing, “wot he is good at”.

c. Michael St.Mark 2011

Another topical progressive Scrunch ArtTM sequence by M.St.M. ( apologies for the Eddie George clanger)

With the British economy apparently about to fall off a cliff, here’s fatcat mega jobsworth Mervyn King, govenor of the Bank of England,  passing the buck waxing lyrical about how Euro rescue now lies (sic) in the hands of the politicians.
( Well, that makes us pretty much doomed then.)

” The regulators around the world have said, and they still maintain this today, and I think they’re right, that for the major banks in the world, they have the ability to cope with this crisis …. it isn’t a threat to the banking system as a whole.”

—Mervyn King interview in 2007 before the banking system demonstrated its total inability to cope less than a year later
